Camera Repair Secrets

Ed Romney is more than willing to share enough good secrets with you to make you want to buy everything he has to sell. He has books on just about every old camera imaginable and a fine collection of repair tools.

Camera Seals

Camera seals do not last as long as the camera. Replacing them will avoid bigger problems later. Mike Lorig offers a camera seal kit that allows you to replace aging seals on your cameras.

Camera Repair Forum

The Classic Camera Repair Forum is for those who like tinkering with cameras form the 1970's or earlier. Included are repair and instruction manuals for personal download. Articles include topics on general repair and restoration.

Camera Repair Resource Guide

Michael Covington maintains a FAQ on camera repair. He includes a list of camera repair shops that get consistently good ratings. For self repair, he recommends Ed Romney (see top link in this column), and includes a list of recommended tools. But if your camera is expensive, he cautions against repairing it yourself.

GretagMacbeth

Makers of the well-known Macbeth Color Checker, which is used for color balance in color photography. They produce and sell a wide range of professional quality (priced to match) color management instruments and software. If you're really serious about color, visit this site. Not the easiest site to navigate, so be prepared to spend a little time.

Not a camera store, or a source for the SX-70, but source of information about this sought-after camera. The SX-70 is considered by many as the best Polaroid camera.
