BIOGRAPHY
Susan Todd-Raque
Susan Todd-Raque is an independent scholar, writer, lecturer, and critic on 19th and 20th century photography. For the past twelve years she has played an influential role in Atlanta as an art lecturer, educator, and supporter of the arts.
Todd-Raques interests and expertise in photography are wide-ranging. She has lectured on topics as varied as the photography of Victorian women, the iconic imagery of Andy Warhol, luminosity and sensuality in the images of Edward Weston, and self-portraits by women photographers. As a recent guest lecturer at the High Museum of Art, she presented a program titled Surrealism in Photography: Yesterday and Today. Her lectures on the history of photography have been received at a variety of institutions including Emory University, The Daguerreian Society, The Atlanta College of Art, and the Michael C. Carlos Museum, among others.
From 1994-2001 she was a professor of History of Photography at The Atlanta College of Art and Georgia State University. She has also taught courses as an instructor or guest lecturer at Spelman College, Oglethorpe University, and Agnes Scott College.
Her published work includes the catalogue for the exhibit First Light: The Nexus Photographers as well as numerous free-lance articles written for Public Art Review, Art Papers, Piedmont Review, Views, and The Atlanta Photography Group journals.
In 1999 Todd-Raque co-founded Atlanta Celebrates Photography, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting photographic exhibitions and educational programs throughout the city of Atlanta. She continues her service to the arts community as a volunteer Board member for ACP and as Board member of Photo Forum at High Museum of Art, Art Papers, and Georgia Lawyers for the Arts.
She holds a B. S. in commerce from De Paul University in Chicago, and an M. A. from Emory University in Atlanta.
