Opening Night
Only In 2000, October 6, 2000
"Only in 2000" helps open "Atlanta Celebrates Photography" with a bang
Throughout Atlanta, fine art galleries opened their doors to anyone with an interest in art. Nearly all featured some photography within their collections. Few had as diverse a collection of new and exciting photography as the APG Gallery on 9th & Watkins.
Jane Jackson (at left) put together a splendid collection of images, favoring 52 artists with the chance to show their work. Several pieces use alternative processes or stake out new ground by exploring new modes of presentation. Most of the photographs are solid statements in black and white.
Many artists in the show were in attendance. It was a great chance to talk to them about their work and gain some insights into why it was created.
This evening also represented the debut of APG's latest Collector Prints. This is a collection of hand-selected photographs that are available to those who join the Atlanta Photography Group at a Sponsorship level or higher. It is an incredible bargain for the photography collector. The Collector Prints is updated every year and debuts at the first show of the fall season.
