Curves ahead Photography by Women at APG Gallery
by Christina Kline, Creative Loafing, 7/1/00

"The female body is a vastly intriguing place. Now lining the walls of the Atlanta Photography Group Gallery, Photographs by Women is a body of work by female photographers that imbues the female subject with the confidence and vitality often missing from the male focus."

Photographs By Women

June 14 – July 22, 2000

Juried by Cathy Byrd

Motorcycles, masks and mud. A bittersweet birthday. Secret passages and flickering signs. The ecstasy in a bending leaf. Dark-eyed looks and sensual spider veins. Rituals, rust and red-haired girls. Photographs by Women tell endless stories.

As an art critic, I'm privileged to see accomplished oeuvres and brave experiments every day. Even so, I was impressed with the effort and outcome of works confided in me by the Women in Focus. They observe and record the complex seduction of beauty, aging and innocence in a wide world of people, places and things. The view is sexy, surprising, mysterious, funny, haunting, thoughtful and inspiring.

Isn't that just like a woman?

-Cathy Byrd, Atlanta, June 2000
